Portugal Highly Qualified Activity (HQA) Visa

The Portugal HQA Visa allows individuals to start a research driven startup venture in Portugal in an area of the applicants choice. The applicant will own the majority of the venture and can be as passive or active in the project as they want. The venture will initially operate for a minimum of three years in conjunction with partners in Portugal who will manage the day to day operations. During the first three years, the applicant will hold a Residence Permit. After 24 months, they can renew this permit for an additional 36 months. After this, if they qualify, they can apply for citizenship. The program is a simple and straightforward way to gain citizenship to an EU country.
